To me it is all about flow. The better the flow of the game the higher the fun factor. Some players can avoid gaming without effort. More players cannot, imo. I see flow disrupted by trying to "act around it" or, as said above, talking about it OOG. Thus a drop in the fun factor. I am a fan of not enforcing metagaming. A creative GM will make it work in the game.
